{"id":30006,"date":"2012-10-03T15:34:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:10081\/?p=30006 "},"modified":"2012-10-03T15:34:00","modified_gmt":"2012-10-03T15:34:00","slug":"30006-revision-v1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minzhuzhongguo.org\/?p=30006","title":{"rendered":"Chinese dissident artist Ai launches first big U.S. show"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mzzg.org\/UploadCenter\/ArticlePics\/2012\/39\/2012103%E4%B8%8B%E8%BD%BD.jpg\" alt=\"2012103\u4e0b\u8f7d.jpg (450&#215;300)\" \/><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>WASHINGTON | Tue Oct 2, 2012 4:50pm EDT<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>(Reuters) &#8211; China&#8217;s most famous political dissident, Ai Weiwei, launches his first major U.S. art exhibition on Sunday with some unflinchingly political works, including an image of his brain bleeding from a police beating.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>The show, &#8220;Ai Weiwei: According to What?&#8221; at Washington&#8217;s Hirshhorn Museum groups sculpture, photography, video, audio and installation work.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>The choice of the Hirshhorn on the National Mall reflects Ai&#8217;s desire to connect with political leaders, hundreds of foreign diplomats and the network of think tanks in the U.S. capital, museum director Richard Koshalek told reporters.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Ai said in a statement: &#8220;This exhibition has been an opportunity to re-examine past work and communicate with audiences from afar. I see it as a stream of activities rather than a fixed entity.&#8221;<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Ai&#8217;s 81-day detention last year sparked an international outcry. Activists see authorities&#8217; tax evasion case against him as an attempt to muzzle the artist over his criticism of the Chinese government.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>The exhibition fills much of the ring-shaped museum with scores of Ai&#8217;s works.
