{"id":30622,"date":"2012-11-02T15:08:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T15:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:10081\/?p=30622 "},"modified":"2012-11-02T15:08:00","modified_gmt":"2012-11-02T15:08:00","slug":"30622-revision-v1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minzhuzhongguo.org\/?p=30622","title":{"rendered":"U.N. rights boss chides China over Tibet protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div><div>GENEVA | Fri Nov 2, 2012 9:02am EDT<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mzzg.org\/UploadCenter\/ArticlePics\/2012\/44\/2012112%E4%B8%8B%E8%BD%BD.jpg\" alt=\"2012112\u4e0b\u8f7d.jpg (450&#215;306)\" \/><br \/><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>(Reuters) &#8211; The United Nations&#8217; most senior human rights official urged China on Friday to address deep-rooted frustrations that have led to desperate forms of protest by Tibetans, including some 60 self-immolations since March 2011.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Navi Pillay called on the Chinese authorities to release detainees, allow independent human rights monitors to visit Tibet, and to lift restrictions on media access to the restive Himalayan region.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>&#8220;Social stability in Tibet will never be achieved through heavy security measures and suppression of human rights,&#8221; Pillay said, in a rare statement critical of China.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Her spokesman said the appeal was not issued to coincide with a Communist Party congress opening next week, but that the &#8220;time had come to talk publicly&#8221; about allegations of violence against Tibetans seeking to exercise their fundamental freedoms.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>China&#8217;s foreign ministry was not immediately available for comment.
