{"id":31530,"date":"2012-12-20T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-20T15:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:10081\/?p=31530 "},"modified":"2012-12-20T15:15:00","modified_gmt":"2012-12-20T15:15:00","slug":"31530-revision-v1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minzhuzhongguo.org\/?p=31530","title":{"rendered":"Director Xie Fei says China censorship is \\&#8217;killing\\&#8217; art"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mzzg.org\/UploadCenter\/ArticlePics\/2012\/51\/20121220_64802697_chinese.jpg\" alt=\"20121220_64802697_chinese.jpg (304&#215;171)\" \/><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>The film market in China is the second-biggest in the world<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Continue reading the main story<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Award-winning Chinese director Xie Fei has accused his country&#8217;s censorship rules of &#8220;killing artistic exploration&#8221; in an open letter to authorities.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Xie, whose films include Woman Sesame Oil Maker, which won the Berlin Film Festival&#8217;s Golden Bear prize in 1993 &#8211; has not made a film since 2000.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>He urged censors to give clearer rules on banned topics.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Currently, China has no film rating system similar to those used in the UK in the US.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Films must be deemed suitable for all audiences.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Xie wrote that China&#8217;s system &#8220;long ago lost its real social, economic, ideological and cultural significance&#8221;.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>He added that it &#8220;has only become a corrupt black spot for controlling the prosperity of the cultural and entertainment industry, killing artistic exploration and wasting administrative resources&#8221;.<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>It has meant that many western films have been subject to cuts in order to be released.
