{"id":49419,"date":"2015-09-20T00:03:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-20T00:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:10081\/?p=49419 "},"modified":"2015-09-20T00:03:00","modified_gmt":"2015-09-20T00:03:00","slug":"49419-revision-v1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minzhuzhongguo.org\/?p=49419","title":{"rendered":"Workers Strike at Chinese Shipyard, Demand Three Months\\&#8217; Back-Pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>2015-09-18<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mzzg.org\/UploadCenter\/ArticlePics\/2015\/38\/2015919image(76).jpg\" alt=\"2015919image(76).jpg (305&#215;240)\" \/><br \/><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>More than 1,000 workers go on strike over unpaid wages at a shipbuilding yard in Dayang, eastern China&#8217;s Jiangsu province, Sept. 16, 2015.<\/div><div>(Photo courtesy of a witness)<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>More than 1,000 workers at a shipbuilding yard in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu are on strike over unpaid wages, workers told RFA on Friday, as the industrial action entered its third day.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>Around one-fifth of the 5,000-strong workforce at the Sinopacific-owned shipyard in Jiangsu&#8217;s Dayang city walked out on Wednesday, saying they are owed three months&#8217; wages by management, striking workers said.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>The workers had gathered outside the factory gates, warily watched by security guards, but no clashes had taken place by Friday morning, a worker surnamed Tang said.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&#8220;There are about a dozen security guards here, but they won&#8217;t move in, and we won&#8217;t attack them,&#8221; Tang said.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&#8220;There hasn&#8217;t been any violence, and I certainly wouldn&#8217;t get involved in that; we just want our wages,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We haven&#8217;t blocked any traffic, either. We are just outside the inner gates and they won&#8217;t let us in, and they won&#8217;t let us out.&#8221;<\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div>Tang said the factory was widely believed to be in financial difficulties.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&#8220;The factory has no money and they owe us wages, which they are supposed to pay every month on the 25th, but then it never lands,&#8221; he said.<\/div><div><\/div><div>&nbsp;<\/div><div>&#8220;This has been going on for three-and-a-half months.
