{"id":49505,"date":"2015-09-24T00:16:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T00:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1:10081\/?p=49505 "},"modified":"2015-09-24T00:16:00","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T00:16:00","slug":"49505-revision-v1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minzhuzhongguo.org\/?p=49505","title":{"rendered":"Gao Zhisheng: Chinese lawyer describes \\&#8217;torture\\&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div>23 September 2015<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mzzg.org\/UploadCenter\/ArticlePics\/2015\/39\/2015924_85709937_008674675-1.jpg\" alt=\"2015924_85709937_008674675-1.jpg (660&#215;371)\" \/><br \/>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DflUjveJNGU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Gao Zhisheng during an interview in 2006Image copyrightAP<\/div>\n<div>Image caption<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Gao Zhisheng says he was tortured with an electric baton to the face<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Prominent Chinese dissident and human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng has broken his silence to describe how he was allegedly tortured and kept in solitary confinement while in detention.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The 51-year-old lawyer was released from prison in August 2014.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>At the time, his lawyer described Mr Gao, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, as emotionless, &#8220;basically unintelligible&#8221; and missing teeth due to malnutrition.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mr Gao was speaking to AP, in his first interview in five years.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He said he was tortured with an electric baton to his face and spent three years in solitary confinement.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mr Gao is known for defending members of the Falun Gong movement and Chinese Christians.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Every time we emerge from the prison alive, it is a defeat for our opponents,&#8221; he told the Associated Press from his home in Shaanxi province.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&#8216;Mission from God&#8217;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mr Gao, whose wife and children live in the US, also said he would never seek exile abroad.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He described staying in China as a &#8220;mission&#8221; given to him from God.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mr Gao was convicted of subversion and placed under house arrest in 2006, during which time he claims to have been regularly detained and tortured.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He disappeared in January 2009 before reappearing in March 2010.
