\u674e\u67cf\u5149\u5f8b\u5e08\u8868\u793a\uff0c\u6b64\u6b21\u83b7\u5956\u662f\u5956\u52b1\u66f4\u662f\u9f13\u52b1\uff0c\u4f5c\u4e3a\u4e00\u540d\u5f8b\u5e08\uff0c\u4eca\u540e\u4ed6\u5c06\u7ee7\u7eed\u575a\u5b9a\u5730\u5c65\u884c\u6cd5\u5f8b\u7a0b\u5e8f\uff0c\u4e0d\u7ba1\u7ed3\u679c\u662f\u6210\u529f\u8fd8\u662f\u5931\u8d25\uff0c\u7ee7\u7eed\u4ee5\u6cd5\u5f8b\u4e3a\u6b66\u5668\u6559\u80b2\u653f\u5e9c\uff0c\u4f7f\u5176\u4e0d\u518d\u91cd\u590d\u4ee5\u524d\u7684\u884c\u4e3a\u6a21\u5f0f\uff0c\u5c0a\u91cd\u516c\u6c11\u7684\u6743\u5229\u548c\u81ea\u7531\uff0c\u540c\u65f6\u79ef\u6781\u57f9\u517b\u516c\u6c11\u7684\u6743\u5229\u610f\u8bc6\u3002<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

\u674e\u548c\u5e73\u5f8b\u5e08\u9996\u5148\u5bf9\u56fd\u9645\u793e\u4f1a\u5bf9\u4ed6\u4eec\u6240\u4f5c\u52aa\u529b\u7684\u8ba4\u53ef\u8868\u793a\u611f\u8c22\uff0c\u7531\u6b64\u53ef\u4ee5\u770b\u51fa\u56fd\u9645\u793e\u4f1a\u5bf9\u4eba\u6743\u3001\u6c11\u4e3b\u3001\u81ea\u7531\u7b49\u666e\u4e16\u4ef7\u503c\u662f\u6781\u5176\u91cd\u89c6\u7684\uff0c\u4e2d\u56fd\u4eba\u6c11\u5728\u4e3a\u8fd9\u4e9b\u4ef7\u503c\u594b\u6597\u65f6\u5e76\u4e0d\u5b64\u72ec\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u4e16\u754c\u4eba\u6c11\u4e0e\u4ed6\u4eec\u7ad9\u5728\u4e00\u8d77\uff0c\u4eba\u6743\u3001\u6c11\u4e3b\u3001\u81ea\u7531\u662f\u4e16\u754c\u6f6e\u6d41\u3002\u57286<\/SPAN>\u670823<\/SPAN>\u65e5\u53d7\u5230\u5e03\u4ec0\u603b\u7edf\u63a5\u89c1\u65f6\uff0c\u5e03\u4ec0\u603b\u7edf\u5bf9\u674e\u548c\u5e73\u5f8b\u5e08\u83b7\u5956\u7b54\u8c22\u8bcd\u4e2d\u201cAll the glory belongs to God<\/SPAN>\u201d\uff08\u8363\u8000\u5f52\u4e8e\u4e0a\u5e1d\uff09\u4e00\u8bed\u5927\u52a0\u8d5e\u8d4f\uff0c\u674e\u548c\u5e73\u5f8b\u5e08\u8868\u793a\u8fd9\u4e48\u8bf4\u662f\u56e0\u4e3a\u81ea\u8ba4\u4e3a\u4e0d\u8fc7\u505a\u4e86\u4e00\u4e9b\u672c\u804c\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u90fd\u662f\u5f88\u5e73\u51e1\u7684\u4e8b\uff0c\u4e0d\u60f3\u628a\u8363\u8000\u5f52\u5230\u81ea\u5df1\u8eab\u4e0a\u3002<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

\u5728\u83b7\u5956\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u674e\u67cf\u5149\u548c\u674e\u548c\u5e73\u5f8b\u5e08\u53c2\u52a0\u4e86\u5728\u666e\u6797\u65af\u987f\u5927\u5b66\u53ec\u5f00\u7684\u5173\u4e8e\u516c\u6c11\u793e\u4f1a\u7684\u7814\u8ba8\u4f1a\u3002\u674e\u548c\u5e73\u5f8b\u5e08\u8ba4\u4e3a\uff0c\u516c\u6c11\u793e\u4f1a\u5728\u884c\u7a0b\u4e0a\u9700\u8981\u65f6\u95f4\uff0c\u6cd5\u6cbb\u3001\u4eba\u6743\u7684\u89c2\u5ff5\u9700\u8981\u5f88\u957f\u7684\u4e00\u6bb5\u65f6\u95f4\u624d\u80fd\u591f\u6df1\u5165\u4eba\u5fc3\u3001\u8eab\u4f53\u529b\u884c\u3002\u4e2d\u56fd\u5baa\u6cd5\u660e\u786e\u89c4\u5b9a\u4f9d\u6cd5\u6cbb\u56fd\u3001\u5c0a\u91cd\u4eba\u6743\uff0c\u4f46\u5176\u843d\u5b9e\u65f6\u95f4\u7684\u65e9\u665a\u3001\u5f7b\u5e95\u7a0b\u5ea6\u53d6\u51b3\u4e8e\u4e2d\u56fd\u516c\u6c11\u7684\u6210\u719f\u548c\u516c\u6c11\u793e\u4f1a\u7684\u5b8c\u5584\uff0c\u8fd9\u9700\u8981\u4e2d\u56fd\u516c\u6c11\u81ea\u8eab\u7684\u52aa\u529b\uff0c\u4ed6\u672c\u4eba\u5bf9\u6b64\u6301\u4e50\u89c2\u6001\u5ea6\u3002<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

I am grateful to NED for giving me the 2008 Democracy Award, which is great encouragement for me to continue to utilize the law to advance religious freedom in China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

In the past 3 decades, China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> has achieved rapid economic development but political reforms remain relatively stagnant, and in some aspects have even deteriorated. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

The result of a lack of supervision and checks and balances within China<\/st1:country-region>\u2019s one party system is that China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is lagging behind in advancing freedom, democracy, human rights, and rule of law. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

However, my experiences tell me, that using law to protect citizens\u2019 rights and freedom can play a role in restricting abuses of official authority and in empowering citizens in China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

As a lawyer, and with the support of my fellow countrymen and the international community, I will continue to utilize the law to fight arbitrary abuse of power, to educate officials, to seek justice for victims of rights abuses, and promote rule of law in China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    \u611f\u8c22\u7f8e\u56fd\u56fd\u5bb6\u6c11\u4e3b\u57fa\u91d1\u4f1a\uff08NED\uff09\u628a2008\u5e74\u5ea6\u7684\u6c11\u4e3b\u5956\u6388\u4e88\u672c\u4eba\uff0c\u4f5c\u4e3a\u5bf9\u672c\u4eba\u7528\u6cd5\u5f8b\u624b\u6bb5\u6765\u4fc3\u8fdb\u5b97\u6559\u81ea\u7531\u7684\u52aa\u529b\u7684\u4e00\u79cd\u9f13\u52b1\u3002

    \u8fc7\u53bb\u7684\u4e09\u5341\u5e74\u6765\uff0c\u4e2d\u56fd\u5728\u7ecf\u6d4e\u53d1\u5c55\u9886\u57df\u53d6\u5f97\u4e86\u5de8\u5927\u7684\u8fdb\u5c55\uff0c\u4f46\u5728\u653f\u6cbb\u6539\u9769\u9886\u57df\u51e0\u4e4e\u662f\u505c\u6ede\u4e0d\u524d\uff0c\u8fd9\u4f7f\u5f97\u4e2d\u56fd\u7684\u81ea\u7531\u3001\u6c11\u4e3b\u3001\u4eba\u6743\u3001\u6cd5\u6cbb\u8fdb\u7a0b\u8fdb\u5c55\u751a\u5fae\uff0c\u751a\u81f3\u5728\u5f88\u591a\u9886\u57df\u8fd8\u5448­\u73b0\u5012\u9000\u7684\u8ff9\u8c61\u3002\u8fd9\u4e3b\u8981\u7f18\u4e8e\uff1a\u5728\u4e2d\u56fd\uff0c\u516c\u5171\u6743\u529b\u7684\u884c\u4f7f\u51e0\u4e4e\u6ca1\u6709\u53d7\u5230\u6709\u6548\u5236\u7ea6\u6240\u5bfc\u81f4\u7684\u540e\u679c\u3002

    \u672c\u4eba\u8fc7\u53bb5\u5e74\u7684\u7ecf\u9a8c\u8868\u660e\uff0c\u5728\u5b9e\u8df5\u4e2d\uff0c\u8fd0\u7528\u6cd5\u5f8b\u4f5c\u4e3a\u634d\u536b\u516c\u6c11\u6743\u5229\u548c\u81ea\u7531\u7684\u6b66\u5668\uff0c\u5728\u5f53\u4eca\u7684\u4e2d\u56fd\uff0c\u662f\u53ef\u4ee5\u5bf9\u516c\u5171\u6743\u529b\u7684\u884c\u4f7f\u4ea7\u751f\u6559\u80b2\u3001\u9a6f\u5316\u548c\u5236\u7ea6\u4f5c\u7528\u7684\u3002

Today, I stand in a stronghold of Freedom and I am excited and inspired. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

I want to thank all of those men and women concerned about human rights in China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> and around the globe. It is your hardwork that makes the world a better place. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

God created humanity and every person has rights to four inalienable freedoms as mentioned by President Roosevelt: <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    \r\n
  1. Freedom from fear, <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN>\r\n
  2. Freedom of speech and expression <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN>\r\n
  3. Freedom of religion, <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN>\r\n
  4. Freedom from want <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/LI><\/OL>\r\n

    Because humanity has limited tolerance of others, in many places around the world, to different degrees, these freedoms and the right of citizens to be their own masters is not guaranteed. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    However, Chinese and Americans are working together tirelessly to improve human rights in the world. Americans have won respect of peoples from many different countries because of their outstanding contributions to human rights. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    Between now and the time NED began to make the Democracy Award, 10 Chinese people have received this award and awareness of human rights has gradually increased. To have so many Chinese citizens receive this award makes it clear that China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s democracy is still not perfect and it needs the efforts and resources of more Chinese citizens as well as support from the international community to improve it. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    The National Endowment for Democracy has, in the past, given this Democracy Award to Mr. Havel; and it is not a coincidience that his philosophy and actions have inspired countless rights defenders and intellectuals in China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    The fates of people are interconnected, the violation of freedom and dignity to one individual is a violation to all. Freedom and democracy is the profession of all mankind. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    Yet, this reasoning as been called an empty \\”fantasy,\\” and gradually abandoned or mocked. The stories of persecution against people who have faced these challenges are unknown to the outside world, and many around them cannot understand their choice to struggle for freedom. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    Life must continue for those people living under authoritarian regimes, whether they are given praise or not. Where I am from, even to protect basic dignities, to obey the call of conscience inside one\\’s heart, requires tremendous effort and sacrifice. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    For example, in March of this year, when I was abducted by secret police, they covered my head, stuffed me into a car, brought me to a secret interrogation room, took out an already printed version of my article, and threatened: \\”just based on these articles, we can imprison you for five or ten years.\\” They confiscated my passport, cancelled my lawyer\\’s license, and again and again told me to keep my mouth shut. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    In several prisons in Guizhou<\/st1:State>, Jiangxi<\/st1:State>, Hebei<\/st1:State>, and Guangdong<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>, I have had conversations with several prisoners wrongfully sentenced to death because of confessions extracted through torture. They all believe that one day they will be proven innocent and given freedom. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    I too have hope and believe that greater freedom will come to China<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> one day, but not because time will bring change. Rather, it will be earned by the hard work of citizens. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    My thanks to the National Endowment for Democracy; you stand on the side of democracy and the people, not out of a cost-benefit analysis, but out of a commitment to shoulder a common responsibility toward humanity. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    While the fight for freedom itself enriches our spirit and makes us happy, because of the existence of NED and other international supporters\u2019 voices that firmly guard universal values, those alienated, forgotten, and imprisoned people shall feel some joy and comfort. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

        \u5728\u6211\u6240\u751f\u6d3b\u7684\u56fd\u5bb6\uff0c\u4e0d\u81ea\u7531\u7684\u5236\u5ea6\u9020\u6210\u4e86\u6bd4\u8f83\u666e\u904d\u7684\u51b7\u6f20\u548c\u6050\u60e7\uff1b\u800c\u8fd9\u79cd\u51b7\u6f20\u548c\u6050\u60e7\u53c8\u6210\u4e3a\u8ffd\u6c42\u81ea\u7531\u7684\u969c\u788d\u3002\u5728\u4e16\u754c\u8303\u56f4\uff0c\u77ed\u89c6\u3001\u6050\u60e7\u3001\u5bf9\u4eba\u6743\u707e\u96be\u7684\u51b7\u6f20\u4ee5\u53ca\u5bf9\u4eba\u7c7b\u4ef7\u503c­\u7684\u5ffd\u7565\uff0c\u540c\u6837\u6210\u4e3a\u4eba\u7c7b\u81ea\u7531\u4e8b\u4e1a\u7684\u969c\u788d\u3002\u572820\u4e16\u7eaa\uff0c\u8fd9\u79cd\u5929\u771f\u3001\u59d1\u606f\u548c\u6295\u673a\u53d6\u5de7\uff0c\u66fe\u7ecf\u9020\u6210\u4e86\u65e0\u6cd5\u5f25\u8865\u7684\u75db\u82e6\u548c\u5669\u68a6\uff1b\u800c\u73b0\u5728\uff0c\u4eba\u4eec\u8fd8\u6ca1\u6709\u771f\u6b63\u4ece\u5386\u53f2\u4e2d\u5b66\u5230\u6559\u8bad\u3002\u5728\u6838­\u6b66\u5668\u3001WTO\u3001\u4e92\u8054\u7f51\u548c9??11\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u4eba\u7c7b\u7684\u547d\u8fd0\u4ece\u6765\u6ca1\u6709\u50cf\u4eca\u5929\u8fd9\u6837\u7d27\u5bc6\u76f8\u8fde\u3002\u4f46\u613f\u8fd9\u6709\u52a9\u4e8e\u6bcf\u4e2a\u4eba\u3001\u6bcf\u4e2a\u56e2\u4f53\u6216\u653f\u5e9c\u66f4\u6df1\u523b\u5730\u8ba4\u8bc6\u5230\u81ea\u8eab\u5bf9\u5168\u7403\u6587\u660e\u7684\u8d23\u4efb\u3002

    This is a special award for Zhang, since he was a participant in 1989 Democracy Movement. From Tiananmen Square<\/st1:place> to the age of the Internet, Mr. Zhang reminds us that the spirit of free speech cannot, and will not be crushed by any forms of tyranny, whether they are tanks, machine guns, prison cells, or the Great Firewall. <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n

    An American Internet pioneer once famously said that \\”Information wants to be free !\\” I want to say that censorship in Chinese cyberspace will eventually fail because \\”Chinese people want to be free!\\” <\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/P>\r\n
