During Monday morning (May 28th), Pastor Wang Yi, Preacher Li Yingqiang and a large group of church members went to the Caojiaxiang Police Station to negotiate about the beating of Song Guangen on the 10th anniversary of the Chengdu earth quake. The police treated the visiting Christians brutally in front of the police station, arresting 12 church members with the charge of “disrupting social orders.” The reporter of China Aid Association called the police station to inquire about the incident, and the police who picked up the phone claimed that they were “processing” the case, refusing to disclose more details.<\/span><\/p>

In mid May, the police interrupted the Early Rain Covenant Church’s commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Chengdu earth quake, slapping a church member called Song Enguang more than thirty times on the face. At 9:15 a.m. on Monday (May 28th), Wang Yi the pastor, Li Yingqiang the preacher, Qin Defu the director, Brother Ding Daoer, Brother Ye Yin, Brother Zhang Qi and Zhou Yong the lawyer visited the Caojiaxiang Church, demanding the police to explain the beating of Song Enguang two weeks ago. The police detained the visiting Christians.<\/span><\/p>

In the afternoon, the elders of the Early Rain Covenant Church poste an urgent prayer letter. At about 3:30 p.m., Wang Yi’s wife Jiang Rong went to the Caojiaxiang Police Station to inquire about her husband and other church members who visited earlier. Jiang Rong asked the police: “They came here today, because you used violence on May 12th. Why did you arrest them?”<\/span><\/p>

A police with the ID number 8194 refuted: “It’s your own wording. You don’t have any evidence.”<\/span><\/p>

The co-workers and church members gathered at the police station for information, but the police began to arrest once again. Caught unexpectedly, An Yankui the preacher, Ge Yingfeng the director and ten other brothers and sisters were brought into the police station brutally. Other church members present were evicted. The police with the ID number of 008194 beat An Yankui. Some church members saw two detained Christians with handcuffs being brought to the restroom. The police forcibly took off their glasses. According to the police, they had not formally detained the Christians; instead, the police were still interrogating them with the accusation of “disrupting social orders.”<\/span><\/p>

At 5:14 p.m., the reporter from the China Aid Association called the Caojiaxiang Police Station of Chengdu and inquired about the arrest of the twelve Christians. A female police picked up the phone. She claimed: “We are still processing of the case. For more information, you should call the department of political affairs of the Chengdu Public Security Department. We won’t answer questions through the phone. Nor will we accept any interviews.”<\/span><\/p>

Police on duty: “Excuse me. You should contact the public security department. We won’t accept interviews.”<\/span><\/p>

According to videos of the scene, more than ten Christians sang hymns in front of the police station. Some police were taking videos, while others were trying to stop the Christians. The church members told the reporter that the police began to beat and arrest the Christians, who were unwilling to leave. Some church members were evicted. Some were beaten and cursed.<\/span><\/p>

The reporter did not receive any news about the twelve arrested church members before submitting the article.<\/span><\/p>

On May 12th, the Early Rain Covenant Church were holding a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Chengdu earth quake when more than a hundred police broke in and interrupted the gathering. The police closed the church and confiscated 15,000 copies of the Bible and other Christian materials and a thousand DVDs. More than two hundred church members were detained at the police station for a day and were released during evening.<\/span><\/p>
