SUNDAY, FEB. 23, 2020

The weather is still not warm today. The temperature is expected to rise to 19 degrees Celsius tomorrow. The smell of winter is still there, and most of the grass is still dormant.
More and more people are now wearing full protective clothing at the gate of complex buildings. Some residents came out to pick up group purchases and had wrapped themselves in white hazmat suits. Even sanitation workers don't wear protective clothing to this extent! At the beginning of lockdown, the community center staffs did not even have masks or rubber gloves. So, I secretly took some from the warehouse and gave them. I was being labeled as a goodman because of my good deeds. Yesterday, the community service center gave some vegetables to residents. Those vegetables were from other cities. The staff was sorting them in the room. A man sweeping the floor was looking at people sorting the vegetables. I can't give anything to him. Who does not need it at this time? Not to mention that the community center must provide vegetables and other items to some widows, older people, and households in need every day.
On the way to work, I saw an acquaintance sorting out a pile of mail packages at the gate of the buildings. She has been working as a temporary delivery person at the post office for several years. I was a little surprised and asked her how she could still mail packages. She said she had never stopped doing that. However, recently, the guards at the gate entrance did not allow residents to use the gate, making some residents unable to pick up packages easily, so she had to wait here. At a time like this, nothing seems to run smoothly.
I heard a story. A senior colleague's grandson had a high fever. His family spent the entire night in the hospital. The colleague insisted on going to work the following day. He was excited to tell the story of how he carried his grandson to the doctor that night. The hospital workers

shouted at him from a distance, "Don't come near; you're contagious!" I guess I should have stayed away too. I don't know what other people thought, but I suspect that our boss always pretends not to see these things. On the second day of the Lunar New Year, we learned that one of our colleagues had been admitted to the hospital with a fever and the diagnosis was Covid-19 pneumonia. There was much discussion about what we should do and whether we should be isolated because many people were with the patient on New Year's Eve, but the boss said it would be fine. People asked, "What if we were infected?" He kept saying how it would happen, how it would happen. Finally, he said, you guys can quit if you don't want to do it. A few young people did leave. From that day onwards, people working in the community service center isolated themselves from their families.
At noon, we ate take-out boxed meals at the unit. Why do we dare to eat take-out meals? Because medical authorities have said in the media that take-out will not cause cross-infection. We are all very assured, and now take-out is in great demand, and without a connection, it isn’t easy to order. In other words, you must know someone who knows someone.
Generally speaking, to be always clear minded is hard for people. We have always been fascinated by living in a world of chaos. Recently there has been much debate on the Internet about Chinese medicine and Western medicine. A long time ago, I went to a Chinese hospital to see a doctor. Instead of examining me, he asked me one question about my condition and sent me for a blood test and CT without even taking my pulse. I feel that there is no difference between Chinese medicine and Western medicine nowadays or that Chinese medicine is just a legend that no longer exists. I admire Chinese medicine, but I will not go to a Chinese medicine doctor when sick. I will not risk my health to see a Chinese medicine doctor for a severe illness.
At lunchtime, the Community center received a series of urgent complaints from the families of patients. The community arranged to send them to the hospital in the morning. The hospital refused to accept

them because they had no nucleic acid test reports. The patients are stuck in the hospital lobby without treatment, and the hospital guards are not allowing the patients to leave. The patients' families asked the community center workers how they arranged with the hospital in the first place. So, the community center immediately contacted the workers in the branch office while cursing them for being so stupid while doing their jobs.
I used to think I was terrible. Now I am even more sure that I am awful. If I were sick and my family was in such a situation, would I be sitting here eating lunch in peace? I heard that some leaders were fired from their positions. I am not sure why. I think they are not and cannot be very different from me and others.
In the WeChat workgroup, many communities are complaining that they can't buy insulin anywhere. Some resident patients have been off their medication for three days. It is very urgent. There are also community reports of not being able to buy medicine for mental illness. How can this be?
