“Friends of Liu Xiaobo”, an NGO to help free Liu, was established by former Tiananmen student leaders and exiled dissidents in New York on December 8th. A pre-taped speech by the Dalai Lama was played at the press conference. In the speech, the Dalai Lama called for the release of Liu Xiaobo.
