SUNDAY, MAR. 1, 2020

It is a cloudy day. The wind whistled in my ears as I walked down
the street.
Several fruit and vegetable stores are busy with group-buying
business and do not receive individual patrons. If someone asks, the store
owners either ignore or yell: “Not for sale!” Quite domineering.
Most of the pharmacies were open. All of them had a table at the
entrance. Customers were standing behind the table to tell the pharmacies
the name of the medicine.
Some small grocery stores will occasionally open their back doors
quietly. Sometimes I hear a sound from a distance. When I look closer,
the door is still closed.
I was passing a small store that sells stir-fry foods. I saw a woman
kicking the door: “What are you afraid of? Infected people were all
caught.” The owner peeked out of the door. She bent over to reveal a
face and whispered:” What do you want?” I spent ten yuan on buying a
bag of fried peanuts, but the woman insisted on going into the store to
choose. I feel very depressed and think that it has just begun.
However, even if the 10 yuan 10-pound packets don’t reach all
citizens, we should always grant them to low-income households. When
I inquired, I found out that only five vegetable packages were available
for the whole community until yesterday, which is too little. What’s even
stranger is that in the afternoon, I saw that the neighborhood committee
was openly selling these 10 pounds for 10-yuan vegetable packets in the

neighborhood where I live. I asked if only low-income households could
buy them, and the answer was that anyone could buy them. So, I
purchased two white radishes, four carrots, and two tiny cabbages and
weighed them. It’s ten pounds, no more and no less.
I think it’s a good thing to sell 10-pound vegetable packets to the
public. It should be available to all citizens. Everyone living in Wuhan is
now a disaster victim. These 10 pounds of vegetables are not so cheap,
but the public can afford them. At present, due to the closure of the city,
there are many barriers. It is challenging for farmers to transport
vegetables from their fields into the city. The government can deliver the
vegetables directly to the residents. If the city wants, it will solve the
shortage of vegetables and bring income to farmers. What a great thing
to do, to have the best of both worlds. Strictly speaking, farmers are also
victims of the pandemic and have also suffered great losses.
Today the community gave out free vegetables to several
neighborhoods. Those who came to collect them could get broccoli and
a handful of red and green peppers (there were also white radishes but
only a dozen in total). The quantity is limited, first come, first served, and
when it’s gone, it’s gone. It was heartbreaking to see those older men who
usually have a calm demeanor picking up the pace to the line to get their
vegetables. The residents of this area have a good income. In the past, no
one wanted these low-quality foods even if they were delivered to their
door. But anyway, thanks to the kind people who donated these
vegetables, they are saving us. Thank you!
I have always heard people say that it is not the time to enjoy life in
recent days. It is a victory if we survive. If this is our goal, then nine out
of ten times, people will die for sure. I don’t understand how those people
think. Their lack of common sense is the problem.
The community calls on CCP party members to pay a special party
member fee, but it is not mandatory. I heard that one CCP member
resident paid ¥5,000.
This month’s salary has not yet been paid.

I heard that the government had issued a document to give 3,000
yuan of relief to people from other cities stranded in Wuhan. I also heard
that this relief would be paid for by the community service center first. I
don’t know if it’s true, but the policy of 3000 yuan is definitely there to
give those needed people.
Cigarettes were in short supply, and those priced below $20 a pack
could not see in-store at all. It is said that the tobacco companies are not
working, and the stores are out of stock. Don’t they know that some
people can lose their lives even if they don’t smoke?
I heard that a robber broke into the community service center last
night. Surprisingly, there are thieves at such times.
