    S Fischer launches joint promotion of translations by Russian and Chinese political prisoner authors

1，Patriot :
Memoirs of the life of Russia’s most famous opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, who was assassinated several times by the Great Dictator Vladimir Putin on February 16, 2024, and designated as a prisoner of “treason. Navalny, who was in the Arctic Wolf labor camp in Siberia, was suddenly murdered in prison, just like the Chinese opposition leader Liu Xiaobo – the memoir was then translated into German and English and published under the authorization of Mrs. Navalny, who lived in exile in Germany,  It immediately became the best-selling biography of a political prisoner in the German-speaking world for decades.

2, “18 Prisoners” :
the new book by Liao Yiwu, a Chinese political prisoner writer living in exile in Berlin and winner of the German Book Peace Prize – will be published in April and is now available for pre-order. On the evening of May 6, at the Urania Theater in Berlin, the premiere of 18 Prisoners will take place. This is Liao Yiwu’s twelfth book to be published by S Fischer, Liao’s third “Gulag” literary masterpiece: the first two were “For a Song and a Hundred Songs”, which is widely known in the West, and “Bullets and Opium”.
