Visitors stranded at peak requesting refunds blocked the vehicle of staff at Mount Hua Scenery on October 2.
Shaanxi, China – More than ten thousand visitors at Mount Hua were stranded due to the incapacity of tour buses on October 2. During an eight-day holiday session of Mid Autumn Day and China’s National Day, many people took traveling part of their vacation plans.
The booming number of tourist on Tuesday has exceed the capacity of trams, causing tourists stranded at peak. Mount Hua Scenic Management Committee shut down the entrance when many people questioned the management office and demanded a refund of their tickets. Emergency shuttles were blocked outside the scenery entrance and many tourist were forced to hike down in the middle of the night.
Tourist said many of them have purchased roundtrip shuttle tickets while they were informed shuttle buses stopped running at 3 pm. “There was no staff to ask for information,” Jiang, a tourist, said. “We eventually decide to hike down the mountain, it was nearly 8 kilometers (5 miles).”
China News Service later confirmed the news. The scenery office responded that some tourists got emotional when the scenic spot was overpacked and blocked the entrance with their own vehicles. Some even got in a fight with the tourists, the office staff said.
The headquarters of Mount Hua said the chaos between tourists and staff were caused by booming numbers of visitors on peak and the incapacity of running shuttle.
Mount Hua scenic office said the congestion has been resolved and tourists have been issued a refund or sent on transportation. All visitors were escorted down from the mountain and all scenic spots in Mount Hua have returned to normal schedule. FMN
