On June 4th and 5th, 2018, Wei Jingsheng, a laureate of Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, will participate in the 30th anniversary celebration of the Sakharov Prize in Brussels on the invitation of the European Parliament.  Meanwhile, he will also participate and give keynote speeches at the June 4th commemorations with the democracy activists in Europe.

On Sunday, June 3, 2018, in the afternoon from 13:00 to 16:00 in the city of Düsseldorf, Germany, Wei Jingsheng will deliver the keynote speech in the “Commemorating the Heroes Striving for Democracy and Freedom Against Communist Tyranny” Symposium.  Following the symposium will be a demonstration in front of the Chinese Consulate in Düsseldorf from 16:00 to 18:00. (The address of the Chinese Consulate in Düsseldorf is Schanzenstraße 131, 40549 Düsseldorf, Germany.)

These events are jointly organized by the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, the Chinese Democratic Front, the Overseas Committee of the Chinese Democratic Party, and the People’s Party of Inner Mongolia, etc.  We welcome other organizations and individuals to sponsor the events and join us as well.  The symposium will be chaired by Dr. PENG Tao.  Veteran democracy activists from Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, and France, etc. will be present, as well as newcomers.

On Monday, June 4, 2018, from 10:00 to 13:00, in Brussels, Belgium, the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition together with other organizations will hold another “Commemorating the Heroes Striving for Democracy and Freedom Against Communist Tyranny” Symposium and demonstration.  Mr. Wei Jingsheng will also give a keynote speech, along with President Dolkun Isa of the World Uyghur Congress.

Mr. Dolkun Isa was on the Interpol “red notice” for many years as a “terrorist” named by the Chinese government, and thus resulted in detentions.  For more than a decade, Mr. Wei Jingsheng testified for him and gave him help.  After the wrongful detention of Dolkun Isa by the Italian authorities last year, Mr. Wei wrote to German politicians as well as other organizations and individuals to provide testimony and assistance to Mr. Dolkun Isa.  In February 2018, Interpol finally had to remove Dolkun Isa from its “Red Notice” list.

Later on, we will provide other details of the symposia and demonstrations.  We welcome our friends in Europe to participate in these events in Dusseldorf and Brussels.  We look forward to meet and talk with friends, old or new, while we strive together for democracy and freedom in China!
