(25 November 2012, in the Amdo region of Tibet, in Zekudo in Hemao Township [today Zekudo County is in Qinghai province], a Buddhist nun of only seventeen years of age called Sunjedroma immolated herself. In her home, her compatriots found a letter she’d left behind, within which was the following poem in Tibetan )

-

People of Tibet raise your heads, see the azure sky, from the cliff-top temples, my guru has gone

People of Tibet raise your heads, see the snow-capped peaks, the snow lion has left, my snow lion has gone

People of Tibet raise your heads, see the thick forests, the grassy plains, my fierce  tiger is gone

People of Tibet raise your heads, see the snow-covered region, the era of the snowy land has begun, Tibet independent and free

Dalai Lama, trekking through the world far away, may the red-faced Tibetans

awake from their dark nightmare

Panchen Lama, gaze up at the sky from prison, may a happy sun rise up in our snowy  land
